Got a problem I've never run into before....installed a Diamond X1650 Pro
512Mb AGP card into my older Barton 3200 / Soltek Nforce2 AGP8X / 9800 Pro
128Mb box running XP Pro. Unisntalled the drivers before shutdown, put in
the new card, all power connectors hooked up, booted up and installed the
latest Catalysts with CCC. Works perfectly, but no 3D, period. Try running
ATI tool artifact finder, won't run. Try running 3Mark05, system does hard
reboot when going into 3D. D/l and installed DX 9.0c and also got the latest
Nforce2 drivers and installed them, no difference. Everest home shows blank
screens when clicking on the GPU. 2D is fine, ATI tool shows correct default
speeds for the card The identical card I stuck in an older Dell box never
gave issues. Any ideas would be appreciated. The system has never been
glitchy or unstable. P/S is a generic 420W.

You installed this driver (more specifically, GART driver 4.36 included in
the package)?

What does Everest say about your mobo's AGP slot status? Should be something
along the lines of "4x (8x capable)".

Yep, those are all installed. Including the GART 4.36....and Everest has
completely blank screens under PCI/AGP and GPU which I've never seen. The
device manager shows a proper device install, and CCC shows functioning
AGP8X mode and no issues. I'm wondering if the generic 4 year old 420W ATX
p/s is flaky and not pulling enough juice to the card when it kicks into 3D
mode.

Just ran Dxdiag.exe and the unit failed all 3 Direct3D tests at step 8
"Failed to initilliaze 3D device". Directdrwa passes all tests. Sandra 2007
sees the X1650 Pro fully functional and running in AGP8X mode. So I'm at a
loss...
