Is anyone using this board? It looks like a micro-atx version of the
7NJL6. Please provide a buy/no-buy recommendation.

TIA!

ud,

Can you give a buy/no-buy recommendation?

Will the distance between the AGP and PCI slot 1 permit a PCI video
card without the heatsinks interfering? If the slot spacing is like
most boards with 5 PCI slots, the answer would be no....

Also, does this board support dual-channel memory?

I want to run a 3200 processor on one of these two boards, and wonder
if the 7NIF4 is just a micro-atx version of the 7NJL6.

Thanks,

Guy

first off, can you get the 3200 at a good price? are you talking the 3200/400 or 333? do you have a need for a micro/graphics board? what memory do you have or plan on getting? agp/pci card what do you have and what are you figuring on doing?

you have a 7njl6 with a 3000/333 correct?

I currently have a system with a 7NJL6 and 2900 chip, PNY 512/400 x 2
memory, and a XFX 128MB video card.

What I am thinking about is a system with a 3200/400 processor, using
PNY 512/400 x 2 memory, and the XFX 256 MB system. This is
essentially the same system I built with the 2900, except at 400MHz
vs 333, and with a 256MB card instead of 128. I can get the 3200 for
$149 right now.

I am replacing an AOpen AK77 / Athlon 1700, which stared blowing
capacitors last december. I have no need for a micro board since I
am using an existing 10-bay case. My family's gaming requirements are
quite limited, and this will be a third computer (the other is a stock
Gateway P4/1300 with RAMBUS memory, circa 2001).

Halo is the most ambitious game I have, but I do not plan to build a
gaming rig yet.

hope i don't miss anything but here goes. i bought a chaintech kt600 and 7nif4 awhile back to get an idea of what people could expect from them. i was able to get a xp2600 to run at 11.5x200 in the kt600 with a volage bump by using the pin mod method. i would image one could do the same with the 7njl6. a cheaper way to get more performance than the xp3200. i haven't had time to play pin mod on the 7nif4 but i would imagine it can be done.

as far as a pci or agp vid card fitting either the 7njl6 or the 7nif4 shouldn't be a problem. the j6 has that tiny southbridge heat sink which i doubt rise above the pci slot so it should clear. the f4 doesn't have one.

if you were to buy the xp3200, i would put it in the j6 and the xp2900 in the f4 to make use of the onboard video that only works with 333fsb. the f4 is nice that it has sensors so you can keep track of happening behind the scenes but other than that they about the same.

considering $150 xp3200 and another $90 for a 7nif4(if you find one), i think a better way to go would be 64bit.

you have a good agp card and 400 memory. you would need a solid 12v/20amp psu $50,

retail 3400 sempron 754 $135
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819104231

chaintech vnf3 $60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152043

or

retail 3000 venice 939 $146 or
" 3200 " " $192

chaintech s1689 $55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152052

that should give you an idea of what you can do. there's no reason that you can't look at other similar boards by other manufacturers. just some food for thought.

speed wise with the 7nif4/2600 i can run super pi at 53-1m seconds.

http://superpi.radeonx.com/

my msi delta xp2800 o/c 11x200(3200) 47sec.
my chaintech 7njs 2600-mobile o/c 11.5x220 39sec.
my chaintech vnf3 3400 11x200 clawhammer stock 41sec. o/c 10x232 37sec.

Ud,

Thank you for the advice. This is the first time I seriously looked
at a Sempron processor, and I am very impressed. I assumed it was
basically a no-cache version of the Athlon 64 (akin to the Celeron),
but I am now intrigued by what this processor has to offer.

Thanks again!
