I have an A8N-E with BIOS 1013 (the latest, AFAICS).

In the BIOS settings, on the Power menu, the "ACPI APIC Support" option
shows "Enabled" and is grayed out so that I cannot change it. Is this
how it is supposed to be? Is this dependent on another setting somewhere?

Look carefully through the other bios screens. I think you'll
find an additional setting to enable APIC. Often this setting
is buried under a few other menus.

That makes sense, I suppose, but I couldn't find it documented. I wanted
to disable it only so that I could reenable it just to ensure that it
was enabled. I am trying to figure out a situation where it appears that
APIC mode is being used but no high IRQs are being used.

If you have a dual core CPU I don't think you can disable it. I can't
see any situation where you would want to turn this off anyway..
