I need help understanding SATA controllers. I'm running two SATA drives,
the bootable drive is on the SATA1 header and the data drive is on the SATA
3 header. Both drives are seen on the primary channel on their respective
controllers. My question is that the bootable drive on SATA1 is seen on the
second listed SATA controller in device manager and the data drive on SATA3
is seen on the first listed SATA controller in device manager. To help
clarify my question, the SATA3 drive is listed as Disk0 and the SATA1 drive
is seen as Disk1 in the disk management applet. Shouldn't drives on SATA1
and 2 been seen as Disk0 and 1 and drives on SATA3 and 4 be seen as Disk2
and 3?
What gives?

TIA,
john

This is either the second or third time I've posted a question on this group
without receiving a reply. I've participated in this group before, observed
NG etiquette, and even contributed when I thought I could be helpful. I'm
at a loss to understand why no one replies to my posts. Am I blacklisted?
Am I personna non grata? Am I personna non newsgroup?

Could someone please explain.

I answered this question yesterday for someone else. The order in Device
Manager is reversed because of their PCI bus locations. On my A8N-SLI
Premium the PATA IDE controller is PCI device 6, the SATA IDE controller for
3&4 is device 7, and the SATA IDE controller for 1&2 is device 8, and that's
the order they show up in in Device Manager.

I just checked in Google, and by changing the name of the
Subject, that caused my newsreader to disconnect your post
from your original posting. I see "DRS" has already answered
your question.

Have you considered your concern from the perspective of a
potential answerer ? Why do people answer questions ? What
would motivate them ? After all, it takes time to answer a
question, so there is some "cost".

Is the question interesting ? Is the question unique ? If
the question isn't interesting, maybe one answerer will leave
it to another to handle, and the question gets lost.

I seem to remember that the first questions I asked on here,
didn't get an answer. Which didn't particularly bother
me one way or another. It took me three weeks of work on
my own to figure out my problem.

Some questions automatically elicit more of a response than
others. An innocent noob with a broken motherboard, would
likely get a response. If you changed your pseudonym to
"Cynthia", I bet you'd get more answers. Don't take the
responses you get too personally, as the alt hierarchy
is a "rough neighbourhood". And like fishing, there is
no guarantee that you go home with fish at the end of
the day Smile

Come on, john. Surely you don't think that we are to blame.

You need to work on improving your writing skills. The subject line
should be inviting such that even those that don't know the answer
will respond to your clever subject.

Work on it.

Probably the main reason may be that no one knows the answer to your
questions. I noticed some strange things about the numbering scheme of
physical drives on my A8N-E, but I got everything working so I just quit
worrying about it.

99% of the time any question you have has been asked and answered already.
There are only so many time people are willing to answer the same question,
hence FAQs and the famous phrase, "Google is your friend". (You can Google
search news groups as well as web sites).
