I have an Asus A8N-SLI on the way and I did not order memory online as I was
leary of compatibility issues based on research. Have you found the Asus QVL
(Qualified Vendors List) to be a hard fast document when using 2-DDR-400
modules on the A8N-SLI ?

tia,
d.

Hard and fast in what way? If you are asking whether the RAM listed in the
QVL will work, then I would say yes 99.99999%.

If you are asking whether RAM listed in the QVL is the only RAM that will
work in the A*N-SLi, the the answer is definitely no.

Having said all of that, do be very very careful when buying RAM for any
S939 board. I have never seen any boards as fussy as S939.

If you think you can afford it, then look for well known brands, and
preferably stuff with long/lifetime warranty, for example Corsair.

I've got the Corsair TwinX2048 3200C2 modules (2x1024 @ 2.5/3/3/8 1T)
and they work just fine.
In a Dutch forum ppl have posted positive results with these modules:

- Corsair 3200XL 1024 MB DDR400
- Corsair XMS Pro 4000 512 MB DDR500
- Corsair XMX PC3200C2 1024MB DDR400
- Kingston PC3000 256MB DDR370
- Kingston Hyper X PC4300 512MB DDR533
- Kingston Hyper X PC3200 512MB DDR400
- GeIL Ultra Platinum PC4000 512 DDR500
- G.Skill PC4400 512 DDR550
- Twinmos PC3200 512MB DDR400

Hope that helps.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I should add that I have 100% stability (even with Memtest86 all night long)
with
2x 512mb OCZ PC3200 EL Dual Channel Memory. I run everything at default (no
overclocking) and my timings are 2-3-3-6 1T timings. OCZ makes damn good
memory at very good prices and includes lifetime warranty.

I ended up using 2 - 512mb Corsair PC3200XLPro modules as that is all that
was in stock. I've run two days with dnetc (rc5-72), gaming, etc. and no
problems. The manual tells you that you can not run dual-sided modules and
only unregistered memory (non-ecc, or ecc but unregistered no matter which
one) and to use identical modules.
