Hi,
Is there anyway to enable AAM for Seagate 7200.7 PATA?
I know the SATA versions have AAM disabled but I've read that PATA works
fine.
I've tried Hitachi's Feature Tool but doesn't seem to work.

At some point I considered if AAM was disabled using the
Device Configuration Overlay feature set, but no.

I have from my Identify program:

27 Model number (40 ASCII characters)
ST340016A

Device Configuration Identify data structure:

0 0x0001 Data structure revision
1 0x0007 Multiword DMA modes supported
2 0x003F Ultra DMA modes supported
3 0xB56F Maximum LBA word 0
4 0x04A8 Maximum LBA word 1
5 0x0000 Maximum LBA word 2
6 0x0000 Maximum LBA word 3
Maximum LBA: 78165359
7 0x00CF Command set/feature supported
SMART feature set supported
SMART self-test supported
SMART error log supported
Security feature set supported
Automatic acoustic management supported
Host protected Area feature set supported
255 0x75A5 Integrity word

And for a newer disk:

27 Model number (40 ASCII characters)
ST3160023A

Device Configuration Identify data structure:

0 0x0001 Data structure revision
1 0x0007 Multiword DMA modes supported
2 0x003F Ultra DMA modes supported
3 0x9EAF Maximum LBA word 0
4 0x12A1 Maximum LBA word 1
5 0x0000 Maximum LBA word 2
6 0x0000 Maximum LBA word 3
Maximum LBA: 312581807
7 0x018F Command set/feature supported
SMART feature set supported
SMART self-test supported
SMART error log supported
Security feature set supported
Host protected Area feature set supported
48-bit Addressing feature set supported
255 0x84A5 Integrity word

I do not know the model names, except for the ST numbers, but they are
both PATA disks.

Perhaps the "Automatic Acoustic Management feature set"
has been disabled.

Maybe that Svend can shed some light on that.

Suggestion:
for comparitive purposes it may come handy to use a standard
layout and (also) list the non supported items as "not supported".
