I read in the latest cpu mag that amd is going to bring all there cpu
sockets down to 2 standards next spring or summer 2006 one for the dualcore
and fx series and 1 for the sempron line. Does this mean that cpu speeds
have topped out, and we'll just see multicore processors comming out or is
this just another gimmick and we'll see yet another "standard" in 2007?
In 2001 I was able to buy an msi mobo that would run both the duron and xp
cpus. Why can't they do the same for fx, sempron and dual cores? I think the
consumer is getting scammed again

And this new standard is not socket 939. So anyone with a 939 board will
probably be out of luck when it comes time to get rid of the 3800 dual core
or anyone with an 64 bit cpu in the 3000 to 4200 series and upgrade to this
"new Standard" with out first changing mobos again. Here in Winnipeg MB
Canada, you can't even buy a xp 3200 anymore. Non existant. All stores here
now only carry sempron, fx, 64 bit and dual core cpus and motherboards
