Dirk said Hammer at the end of 2001 at a Conf. Call in early 2001 or
late 2000, have the audio of that here somewhere. ;p

The multi-threading was a surprise to me, first I've heard of AMD

I think the second half 2005 comment ties into their expected use of 65nm
production tools, indicating that whatever they plan for K9, they expect to
have the design work done ahead of being able to actually produce them.
Might be that K9 is not much more than an updated, dual core, multithreading
version of K8 with other minor changes. If K9 is to be a dual core thing as
standard, it will take a shift to 65nm to make this viable for AMD, since
its expected 90nm production will be required to bring K8 back to an
economical size, a chip at least twice the size will no doubt require a much
smaller production size than 90nm.

Well, dual cores are not likely to be twice the size. Possibly 50% larger,
but definitely not 100% larger. That's because they are sharing at least
their L2 caches with each other, and possibly they may even share their L1
caches. Since caches are now pretty much 50% of the real-estate on a
processor, this might actually better justify that real estate because it
will be shared by two cores.
