Hi all,
A mate has this mobo and the above hdd, which
is a Seagate SATA 2 160 GB hdd.
He's switched it to SATA 1 mode.
The prob seems to be, no matter what he does
he cant install Windows 2000 on it.
During the 2k install, it says it cant find it.
He's not running it in RAID, but when it gets detected in the BIOS (If he
presses TAB on the post screen),
it says Not enough disks to create a disk array or something, which I take
it has something to with RAID.
Which he's not using.
It either says this message, or it says please insert media.
I see in the manual, it says to go to advanced/onboard devices config/on
chip sata boot rom and enable it.
For RAID, but as above he's not using RAID.
And it doesnt matter if its enabled or disabled, 2k still wont install on
this SATA.
He's just updated the BIOS to 1501 which is the latest, but it made no diff.
So, has anyone got this mobo and using a SATA 2 hdd (jumpered to SATA 1),
and managed to get something on it??
Another thing is, there is a 20 GB IDE in the case which is working, BUT if
he connects the SATA and the floppy, it wont post? The PSU is 500W so that
shouldnt the prob.
Any help wld be appreciated

Sounds like he needs to copy the w2k SATA controller drivers
(from the mobo driver CD) onto a floppy and then needs to press
F6 during w2k installation, and insert the floppy when prompted.
Or install the SATA controller drivers while booted to the existing
20GB PATA.
The other problem may be that the mobo is trying to boot from
the SATA once it's plugged-in. See if he can override that in
the BIOS before connecting the SATA and powering up.

The sata hd is connected to a sata controler, win will not see the sata hd
untill you install the sata/raid drivers from floppy.
It matters not whether you are using raid, though some controlers require
you to configure the raid as jbod.
Read the mobo manual

I think the main prob as well, is the system wont
post if the SATA and floppy are connected.
And he doesnt know why.
He can do the floppy on another PC he's using
But getting it to work on the PC in question, maybe another matter.
Anyone done this with a USB flash disk? With the SATA drivers?

The SATA drivers *must* be on floppy, unless the mobo BIOS
is capable of making a USB pendrive emulate a floppy drive -
a (very) few can do that, apparantly.

It's the chipset rather than the BIOS. nForce 4 & 5 chipsets, for example,
present SATA drives as ordinary IDE drives during installation. However,
the K8V uses a Via chipset which does not. >> Stay informed about: ASUS K8V-X SE and st3160811as hdd |
