Just fitted an Ultra ATA/100 (CMD649-IDE) to the PA-2013 and
find it and a Maxtor 80Gig works fine, but as my original HD is
still fitted at the moment (a 6.4Gig) which will be transferred to
a Cyrix powered PC.
What is a good HD performance utility prior to further changes.

One minor note I used the Maxtor very fast format/partition
utility which places the first partition as drive D while this is
not a problem I now find my Grisoft AVG ignores the new drive.
While this problem should disappear when removing the 6.4Gig,
any ideas as to why it does not see the new 80Gig

Update;
Since using the PA-2013 with the new controller & HD I noticed that
the new 80Gig HD was getting very hot, so hot I could tell from the
hot electronic smell rising from the PC case.

So while this VA-503+ using an identical Maxtor 80Gig but plugged
in to the existing original HD lead with no ATA controller, I had
had no problems.

Any suggestions welcomed, as identical 80Gig drive has been no problem
on this 503+ using I am using it right now, only difference is no ATA
controller being used.
I can only think;
1 A faulty drive (though format/partion/checking no problems).
2 Trying to run original HD and 40pin IDE cable as well.
using the assumed 80pin controller cable. (what is the difference
between the two apart from the Blue connector against the Black
for 40pin.
3 Original HD run as master, plus the new controller & HD as master as well.
4 Unlikely to be HD postion as in seperate section along with floppy disk.

Another update controller & 80Gig working fine, unclear as
to what the problem was, but 6.4Gig disconnected.
