Hi,

I have an Atlhon XP 2000 on a new ECS K7VTA3 v8 motherboard. ( and a 266mhz
256mb ddr ram dimm)
what am I supposed to do with the jumpers for frequency settings?
it has 100mhz, 133mhz and 166mhz. I've had very little luck on all settings.

Now, I decided to REMOVE the jumpers off the board, and it powers up ok
every time.

Now it says I have a Atlhon XP 2600+, I am concerned I may damage the
processor this way.
any comments ? suggestions ?

Also, I have a problem now reading the drive, windows won't work ( not even
MSDOS's ScanDisk ),
but I believe this is another story. (any pointers on these? please. )

thanks,
CJ.-

Was there ever a solution to this? I am having the same problem.
After installing the CPU and new memory, it started to boot and acted
just like I expected, had to set up bios, then started to load
Windows and discovered new hardware and demanded the Win98 CD to find
the drivers. Unfortunately it didn't recognize I had a CD drive,
therefore I aborted and rebooted. This time it didn't even find I
had a hard drive. Booting from diskette said the FAT32 was bad, etc,
etc. This happened on TWO harddrives. My main drive is a 120Gb
drive which I had cloned from a 40GB. The 40Gb had been retired to
the shelf, so I put it back in with the same results.

Interestingly enough, from a COLD COLD boot (like overnight) from
diskette it will locate the hard drive and I can read the contents
with "dir" for a little while, then it starts giving bad media error
messages.

This board also will not accept my older Voodoo 3dfx video card. The
keying slot in the connector is in the wrong place. This video card
worked fine in my older ECS MB, -- that is after I found the right
drivers for it.

I was having this problem and found that IDE#1 port was bad. I had
my hard drive on #1 and my CDDRive on #2. I swapped my hard drive to
#2 and my CD to #1 and I then had a harddrive but no CD DRive. So I
made the CD DRive slave and put it on the cable with the harddrive. I
can now use both. This MB is going back to the store tomorrow.
