Adding a wireless Access Point to an existing LAN (NAT)
I want to add a WAP (Wireless Access Point) to an existing, good functioning
LAN, existing out of an Winroute NAT server, switch + connected client-PC's.
The WAP has router/DHCP, switch and wireless functions: the DHCP will be
disabled because the Winroute server is functioning as a DHCP-server and I
want to use all firewall, anti-virus protection already available on this
Winroute server.
I have questions on the settings necessary to incorporate this new LAN it in
the existing LAN.
[ADSL Cable modem]
|
|---->[Winroute Server] / DHCP
|
|
|----->[Switch]
|
|
[Client PC's
- 192.168.0.XX]
- 192.168.0.XX]
- 192.168.0.XX]
Now I want to place the WAP behind the Winroute Server and connect it
(4 ports, 1 uplink) to the switch (8 ports, 1 uplink).
|
|----->[Switch]
|
|
|
|---------|--------------|
| |
| |
[Client PC's [OfficeConnect Gateway]
- 192.168.0.XX] LAN IP = 192.168.1.1
- 192.168.0.XX] |
- 192.168.0.XX] |
|
|----->[Laptop /w wireless NIC]
Concerning this Gateway:
I disabled the DHCP's function it has.
But now for the other settings:
- what port on the switch do I connect what port on the OfficeConnect WAP: both
uplink or ...?
- what cable is necessary to connect switch and WAP: normal network or
crossover cable?
- what IP range should I use on the WAP? Keep the 192.168.1.1 or change that to
192.168.0.XX?
- what IP settings on the card in the laptop?
Thanks in advance for any help !
