Post subject: Applebred Durons & L2 cache... WTF!
Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>overclocking (more info?)

Hi,

I got a couple of these new 1600 "Duron's" for lower-end machines I'm about
to build. They're both the green ones rather than the grey/brown ones I
remember.

I've only got a couple of cheap (limited bios tweaks) boards, and have been
playing with them over the holiday. But boy, do they fly. At stock Vcore of
1.5v I was happily running at >2000MHz - I think I got to about 170/340 FSB
before the memory "ran-out".

I've done some Googling so I know that they're Thoroughbred based cores
perhaps Barton's...

What I'm interested in is how important is the L2 cache? Because it looks
like these fellas will take the speed, but will their lack of cache (if the
paint/pencil fails) or if your attempting Barton (even bigger cache) type
speed/performance? I seem to remember reading in this NG someone writing
that cache was not as important in AMD's as it is in Intel's....

Anyone got any info, opinions, links?

TIA

Pete

..... forgot to mention, didn't get past 40 deg C Surprised)
