I've heard only good things about the BFG 6800 GT, GT OC, and Ultra cards.
I am betting that there will be a higher incidence of low-reliability
amongst ANY brand of Nvidia card that is a plain 6800 or a 6600 because I'm
betting there is a chance those cards are ones originally meant to be fully
256-bit and/or 16 pipeline and/or 256 meg.
For example, let's say they produce a lot of 500 cards all meant to be all
those things (256/16/256).
But 10 of them come out with a damaged pipeline or one pipeline that doesn't
perform at 100% in some way. So those ten cards they shut down 4 of the
pipelines and sell as a LE or plain 6800 or a 6600 or something. Same goes
with RAM, etc. This is merely conjecture based on some stuff I heard. Kinda
makes sense.
It's why I never buy the "cheaper" model ... of anything if I can. I know
none of us are made of money. But I also think that you end up paying more
if you buy the cheaper model... because your time is worth money and time
spent mailing a defective card back or whatever, IS time.
So I recommend going with no less than a 6800 GT.
And I've been very very impressed with BFG's products, by the way, and I've
heard mostly good things about them.
The company I've heard mostly bad about is PNY.
So I recommend you save up until you can afford a 6800 GT.
