Hi all,

i just got a couple of new components -one of them a BFG 8600 GT
Thermointelligence videocard and this thing got me wondering. It seems as if
there are no extra Power connectors on the card to connect it to the PSU.
Can this be true? Does it really get all it's power via the PCIe port?

Thanks.

Greets

Cris

Of course it needs no extra power for such a low spec card.

The 8600GTS requires a PCIe power connector though.

The PCI Express slot has room for a total of 75W of power.
I don't have a copy of the actual spec, and one powerpoint slide
set claims the limits are 12V @ 5.5A max and 3.3V @ 3A max.

The video cards I've seen numbers for, use up to about 12V @ 4.3 amps
through the slot connector. As long as that is enough power for the
card, then they don't put the extra PCI Express 2x3 connector on the
end of the card.

Apparently, the measured power for the 8600GTS is low enough (47W), that
they could have routed it all through the slot connector. So the
8600GT should be safe.
