G'day all
Since we no longer use floppy discs anymore, i find it annoying that many
BIOS updates still require them. ASUS pretend they have got around this with
their ASUS Update. It doesn't work for me. I keep getting the error message
"sorry there's no proper BIOS image file on the server" despite attempting
all servers available on the update program. the FTP site doesn't appear to
work either.
Any suggestions? I'm sure others have managed to update their ASUS mobo BIOS
without a floppy.
I'm using an ASUS A8V Deluxe - current BIOS version 1008.003
Thanks in advance

Make a bootable CD with the BIOS file on it.

Every PC here has a floppy. Perhaps you should install
one.

Are you using the latest version of the update program?
Have you tried downloading the bios then installing with
the latest windows update program from the hard drive?

Download the bios and point the program to it.
Or use one of the following and the bios file you downloaded:
The flash function built in to the ASUS bios, it's in the manual.
USB thumb drive.
Bootable cd.
USB floppy.

Asus Update works fine for me here on my A8V Deluxe. Try the Asus web site
again. I just downloaded 1017 and 1018.002 (beta) without incident. Download
the BIOS manually, unarchive it, then point Asus Update to the file on your
hard drive. Works fine here. >> Stay informed about: BIOS Update without floppy |

If you use Asus EZ Flash, perhaps the CD will not even have to be
bootable. It should merely have to have the BIN file on it. I actually
have a floppy just to make flashing easier, so I've never tried EZ Flash
with a nonbootable CD, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

This depends on the model. Newer boards supports usb-memory, while a
bit older boards with EzF need floppy or CD.

Well, if you do have a floppy image, it can be used in many ways. You
can boot the image over a network or you can make a CD with floppy
emulation boot or run DOS and use a floppy emulator which is really a
ram disk. I've used all these methods with various PCs, usually
laptops where getting a (bootable) floppy drive or CD can be
expensive. >> Stay informed about: BIOS Update without floppy |

If memory serves me correctly, in order to use a thumb drive, you may to
tell the BIOS to have the USB drive emulate a floppy.
