My main PC doesn't have one even though I have one to install if I want.
They are just no longer needed. I have a bootable thumb drive but I don't
even need that as my P5K will update from a thumb drive using EZFlash.
Then there is the cdrom option too. Floppy drive gives me no benefit at
all so I ddin't bother to install one this time around. My three other PC's
have floppy drives though.

There's a floppy drive connector on the MB. Just pop the side cover
off, plug in a cable and floppy drive and your flashed. 'Course, if it
works with a thumb drive and you have one, so much the better.

Question: Can you use a thumb drive to load third party RAID and AHCI HDD
drivers via F6 during the install of Windows? If not, then that would be
the only thing I could see a floppy being a necessity for.

I've heard it can work, but that depends on the machine.

I prefer making a new installation CD with needed drivers included.
These days nLite makes that easy.
