I'm working on a homebuilt computer for my brother-in-law and I'm
having trouble getting either Win98 or Win2k to recognize the
SoundBlaster Live 5.1 card.
Here is everything I've tried to do.... I have disabled the onboard
audio card through the BIOS. I have also downloaded and installed the
chipset drivers from Biostar. (every time I mention the SB drivers I
am using the updated ones from Creative Labs)
Fresh install of Win2k with SB drivers... During the install Creative
installer says it can not detect any Audio device.
Shut down and physically removed the sound card... powered up the
computer and uninstalled the device drivers that were partially
installed. Shut down the computer and physically reinstalled (in
different PCI slots) the sound card. The computer comes up and during
windows startup after logging in with admin rights. I get the new
hardware detected wizard. Following Creative's installation
instructions I cancel and then run their setup program which again
tells me that the installer can not detect any audio device.
My best guess is that there is a conflict between the mother board and
the audio card. However, I haven't seen any post about this problem...
could I be overlooking a BIOS or jumper setting?
All help will be appreciated!
