I have a 480Mhz PC that won't boot my CD. In BIOS there seems to be no
choice but a Network or something that's not a CD. Seems kind of odd to me.
It's an older PC, but still ... Any suggestions? I'm trying to install W2K
on an XP. Maybe XP is getting into the act, and preventing it?

It has nothing to do with any operating system, it is a bios function which
your steam-powered peecee apparently predates...

Download this. It's an image of a bootable floppy that jumpstarts a CD
boot. It's made for older machines that lack BIOS support for bootable
CD's which ... apparently ... you have.

Good. I'll try it. What do I actually do with it? Unzip it on the floppy?
Write the unzipped file (if there's is just one.) to floppy? What is on the
floppy? Maybe that's told on narod.ru.

I did discover something else. There are some other boot possibilities. Here
are the choices:
floppy
LS120
ZIP 100
ATAPI-MO
SCSI

I have no idea what LS120 and ATAP-MOI are. MO??? I tried them both without
any results.

So what's next. I got the file, and unzipped it. It has three htm files with
FAQs for various languages. Here's one <http://bootcd.narod.ru/bcdl_e.htm>.
Another file is 1.44M. How do I place that on a file? Maybe it's just a
copy, but since it seems to be an "image", maybe there's another procedure?

Correction. How do I place that on the floppy?

The file you want is tne .IMA file, which is a sector image of a floppy
disk. You use rawwrite, winimage, diskimage, or your favorite
image-to-floppy program to generate a boot floppy diskette from the sector
image file.

Thanks. A little hunt on Google for one of those, and all is well. Now to
try it.

Well, I thought I had it pretty well worked out, but not so. When I put the
floppy in the machine, and booted, it started by recognizing there was a CD
there, but then started spewing messages with BCD, then BCDL. It scrolled a
little to fast for me to see what it was saying, but it didn't seem good.
