| I am looking into a DX9 compatible card (not a heavy gamer though), my
budget is $50-75. I've been thinking of the FX5200, but could wait
until the Fx5600 drops to my budget bracket.
So Whaddya all think?

You could look out for an FX5600XT. Folks slag it off cos its slower than
the Fx5600, but its cheaper too (maybe).

If you're not planning to play the upcoming DX9 games then there really
is no reason to buy a DX9 compatible card. And the cheap ones like the
FX5200 will be too slow for even casual DX9 gaming.
When ATI and Nvidia release their new cards this year the older ones
will probably drop in price. Then you might be able to pick up an
adequate DX9 card in the $100 price range.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Budget Nvidia card? |

Noooooooooooooooo! I replaced my 5200 with a 5600XT and it was worse.
Honest. Complete rubbish.
The full 5600 is OK and is dropping in price so wait for that to come down.
But you can pick-up a 5200 pretty cheap right now and they're OK.
If you want a decent graphics card, consider a Radeon 9600 Pro which will
play any game you throw at it. Costs around £100 (also dropping in price by
the week).

It's considered a slowww card, but if you're not a gamer it should be fine.
The 5600 would perform notably better.

Why do you care if its DX9 if you want to buy a $50~75 video card?
Real DX9 games require horse power that the sub $150 cards cannot
handle.
The 5200s are about the same performance as a GF3 for DX8 games and
older. Best to get at least a 5200Ultra... still slower shit than
the pretty much out of stock Ti4200 ($80).
A 5600 is a bit better... but you need at least a 5600Ultra to be
decent... but still sub standard for actually PLAYING DX9 games.

It's still quite idiot that a higher card ( 5600 ) is slower as the
best super budget card ( 5200 ultra )<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Budget Nvidia card? |

Yes, nVidia need to sort out their branding. I "upgraded" my FX5200 (not
Ultra) to a 5600XT - but found the XT to be slower than the 5200. So I
bought a Radeon 9600 Pro.

Then you have to live with what you can get... or save. Its up to up
you. 9800Pros are about $130~140USD.
