Alvin,
40C is well within normal temp range.
Best regards,

see what temps range to on 100% cpu usage.

My P4 2.4 GHz (800 MHz) is overclocked to 2.94 GHz (Asus P4P800), fsb at 980
MHz, and the cpu temp varies from 28 °C (idle) to 36 °C while playing
intensive CFS3.
How critical this temp is depends of how and where exactly your temp is
measured by the motherboard manufacturer
A good reference point is that, without overclocking, the idle temp of the
cpu, if normally cooled (boxed Intel cooler), should be about 5 - 8 °C more
than room temp.
If you have those readings, you can thrust your values and your 40 °C is ok
if it's an "average" value. If it's an idle temp, it's not critical, but too
high. You should check your cooling (cooling paste?). If it's a temp at high
cpu usage, it' s absolutely normal.
Anyways, Intel P4 may go up to 60 °C without any danger, but the lower the
better, of course..<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: CPU temp |

I beg to differ - a few degrees above ambient room temp for the CPU is
not realistic in most motherboards. Additionally, most Abit mother-
boards consistently report higher temperatures - on the order of 10°
difference.
In a well ventilated case w/a stock heatsink, my temps are as follows:
Case: 32° C
PWM: 39° to 70° C (50° average)
CPU: 48° idle, 60° full load
Room ambient temp is 23° C.
This is on an Abit IS7 with a 2.6C at 240 fsb (3.12 ghz).
To the original poster: 40° C is fine for idle OR full load.

I have almost exactly the same temps. Mine goes up to 65°C at full
load. It's a 2.4C @ 3.0 (250 fsb)

i have a p4p800dlx running a p4 2.4c but overclocked to 3.01ghz.
average idle temp is abt 30-34C and full throttle is on ave 38-45C.
however i ve had it running at 56C once when it was a hot day but
never again hopefully with room air conditioning.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: CPU temp |
