Hello,

Is there a way to calculate at what speed a CD-R was recorded? (any
software maybe?).
A CD-R recorded at 48X won't play at 8X drive. So I think there is a
difference and should be a way toestimate it.

playability depends a lot on the hardware used to burn, hardware used
to play back, and the media used for the copy. sounds like your 8x
player does not like the media, so try another brand.
