Hi NG,

I'm looking at buying my first digital camera and I've found the following
: -

Canon Powershot A40 - £99.99 (inc VAT)

or

Canon Powershot A60 - £155.01 (inc VAT)

The Question is, is the A60 really worth the £55 extra for a current model?
I know that the A40 is disconintued but it does sound like a really good
deal. Would anybody care to offer their two-penneth worth?

tia

There are several pages of feedback on the two cameras here:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://forums.powershot-a.com/showthread.php?threadid=3114" target="_blank">http://forums.powershot-a.com/showthread.php?threadid=3114</a>

The general consensus is that the two have very similar image
qualities, with the A60 having a better macro mode, better
autofocus and a slightly warmer (redder) color balance.

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.imaging-resource.com" target="_blank">www.imaging-resource.com</a> has reviewed both, and their "only" complaint
(in "Picky Details") with the current model is "...the glaring
exception being its full-autofocus shutter lag, particularly at
telephoto focal lengths" for the A60 - the A70 _is_ much faster in
that respect! Even the A40 seems faster.

Most sites liked the A40 when it first came out, too bad there is
progress in the digicam world as with most electronics - it makes good
things that still work obselete in just a few years... Very Happy<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Thanks for the replies.

I have just placed an order for the A40. I reckon that as it's my first
camera, I'm really not going to miss the slight improvements of the current
model.

I can also buy the camera, batteries and case for the price of the current
camera on its own!

Thanks again,

Glenn

As a matter of interest, where do you find an A40 for £99.99 ?
My daughter is looking for a digital camera, this would be ideal but can't
find one anywhere near the price you state.
Thanks
