At first I was not very impressed with the image quality, however I
believe what I saw was due to the size of most of the images shown. Then
I had the chance to view one of the pictures in it's full resolution. At
that point I was very impressed. It was the one of the two guys in the
boat. In fact, my monitor only goes to 1600x1200 and I still could not
see the full image.

The only thing I noticed was some blue fringing near the bottom of the
white numbers on the boat. I'm not sure if it's from my monitor or from
the camera or camera lens itself. I moved the picture around on the
monitor and I could still see the blue haloing.

Still, I'm very impressed with the full sized picture.

1. Are the images from the camera the same ratio as a regular 35mm
frame?

2. Are there computers that have a higher resolution than 1600x1200? I'm
sure there are, however mine does not go higher than that and it seems
that most if not all of these higher quality cameras with their lowest
resolution settings are still higher than what my computer can go to.

Thanks,

Barney

You have sharp eyes ! I had to zoom in to 6451x4301 in Irfanview to
see the blue fringing on the same image. Then it was barely detectable
by me. I don't think I'd have seen it if I wasn't looking for it.
I noticed when I saved the file it is in the .bmp format! Wonder why!

It may have to do with the type of image sensor called the CMOS and/or it
can be with the type of lens. Canon's EOS-10D also comes with a CMOS
sensor, however the lens may be different.

Nikon's sensor type in the D100 is a CCD and the lens is probably
different. So it would be intersting to see what's causing this. The lens
or the sensor type.

I do a lot of HDTV viewing so I'm always on the lookout with image quality.
Oh, and the type of monitor I have may show off the picture differently
too.

Hello the answer to Number one is Yes. I am not all that used to that as you
may see from other images, on that site. It will take some adjusting on my
part, as I have a 40 year history of working in something nearer 4x5
proportion.
And my response to your second question .
I also recent acquired the new Photoshop CS "8.0" and in one uses the Raw
Plugin the light flairs at contrast boundaries can be removed. It really
does work. It only seems for me to take a far amount of time.

Hello Barney
The lens that comes with the camera a "EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6......is very
light, hardly seem to have any glass in it.....I believe a better quality
lens would not have that much Chromatic Aberration as Photoshop calls it.
Really that can be removed with the new Photoshop CS plugin.
The image opens up inside the plugin as size 3072x2048 at 240 pixels/inch
and a depth of 8 Bits/Channel.. that's a lot to work with. I may have
posted the file in whatever format is easy for image server to handle, up
till recently that wasn't much,. but for a hobby the price is right, $
30.00US per year, unlimited uploads, Have 3000 images there.

You should use an image viewer such as ACDsee which supports image resizing.
ACDsee has a "Shrink to fit" option you can enable. If you really want all
the details, you can still zoom in.

A free program similar to ACDsee is irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com). I
never used it, but I'm sure it will do the same thing.

If you really want higher screen resolution, current higher end graphics
cards only go up to about 2048 x 1536 (ie the ATI Radeon 9800), though I've
seen specialist $1000+ cards that go as far as 3840 x 2400 (Such as the PNY
Quadro FX 1000, 2000 and 3000). You'll need an equally expensive monitor
too, a $700 Sony Trinitron only displays up to 1920 x 1440. I think there
are 3840 x 2400 monitors out there, if you feel like selling your house
first.
