I've yet to dl the 4.2's but I'm coming to conclusion that the Herc 8500le
simply doesn't cut it anymore. I bought Beyond Good & Evil only to have it
crash out at 1024x768 saying that there was not enough memory (my system has
1 GB of PC3200). Need For Speed Underground suffers from stuttering and
'micro-pauses' all the time.
Converesly, I just got an XBox. Halo runs like sh*t off a chrome shovel
(something that never happened on my PC). To see Halo in it's full glory
with bump-mapping and lighting effects is a sight to behold. Although the
8500le is a fully DX8.1 compliant card, it really is not used to its full
extent. It seems that to get up to the standard of graphics already present
in XBox titles, your need at least a 9600 class card.
Something is going wrong somewhere. My sytem has cost me over £1000 in
contimous upgrades so far, only to find that a £130 console can do it
better.
Maybe a bit OT, but then I've had a few beers!
