Yes, that was it. The clock dropped to 1000 MHz as soon as I changed
that setting. (And I had read that in the manual, too and then forgot
to apply it.) Thanks, Paul.

Can be done via AMD's Power Monitor tool as well when it's running:

Richt click on the little green monitor thingy in the taskbar, a pop menu
will show, select "set power scheme", then select
"minimal power management".

Double left click on the green monitor thingy to see the gui and the
cores/frequencies mhz in action !
