I'm using Glacialtech Igloo 4350Light, P4 2.8G, 20dBA on a 3.06P4 533
I've been measuring temperature just on the lowest point on the side of the
sink and the temp was 42°C when I was burning the proc over 2 hours. BIOS
tells me that temp is 82 but i hardly belive that ( perhaps too too too too
much thermal paste ).
So I've conducted another experiment with the standard box cooler which has
stoped temperature rising at 35°C during processor burning.( 79-BIOS )
Now I'm wondering what did I actually do? Does this have any sense?
I'm asking because the measuring point is the hottest point where i can put
my finger on while the sink is on the processor, but i'm not sure that
temperature there can be used to tell wheater the processor is overheating
or not.
And I just want to be sure that my system will be stabile without crashes,
lockups or any other problems which can be produced by using "weaker"
cooler.
So anyone with similar expirience or knowledge about my situation, please
help
Thank you! >> Stay informed about: Cooling |

the best way to do this is to run prime95 for around 8 hour and if you get
no hardware errors you can be pretty damn sure your system is stable! imo.

Do you have any experience with CPUIdle? Wondering if it works well.

Software cooling is crap imo all it does is put your processor into idle
mode reducing your idle temps but won't do anything with load temps from
what i remember anyway.

OK just wondering, some of the overclock dot com's give it a good rating.
Suppose to reduce temp under load also.

The Win2k/XP kernels do that anyway. Kind of redundant there. In W98/ME it
MAY help a bit at idle, but not enough to matter much.

Software can only compensate for so much. As other poster stated, 2k/XP
already do it. As did/does NT. You will see about 10degC difference
between any windows-based monitor, versus BIOS (aka CMOS).
Under load, software 'cooling' is useless. Physics is a hard thing to do
defy....

Yes, but here in a.c.h.o., we just keep trying, don't we?
As soon as I get my P4C 2.4 stable at 4ghz, I'm going to starting crunching
that anti-gravity formula again.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Cooling |

Only .5 more GHz and my perpetual motion equation will be perfected.
I was hoping that "CPUIdle" would be that straw, but alas, back to the
drawing board...

I tried it and though it worked when it turned itself on it would often lock
my computer up when I tried to resume so I got rid of it. Not really worth
using because of the lockups.
