I still don't understand the purpose of uninstalling ATI drivers because the
Microsoft (old) version will get installed on reboot. This did not seem to
hurt last time I upgraded but maybe I was lucky.

What is the correct order to uninstall and reinstall?

Uninstall ATI Remote
Uninstall Hydravision
Uninstall MMC
Uninstall ATI Video Driver
Reboot
Run ATI Uninstall Utility
Find Old ATI CD to validate DVD decoder
Install Microsoft database updates (even though I have a later version already
installed)
Install Capture Driver
Install Video Driver
Install MMC
Install AI Remote
Install Hydravision

how about just:
Install ATI Driver
Install MMC
