Hi

I'm considering a Hauppauge PVR card and looking at the difference between:

WinTV PVR PCI (Model 883) at around 99UKP
and
WinTV PVR 250 (Model 983) at around 116UKP

As far as I can see the differences are; FM radio in the PCI but not in the 250,
more bundled software with the 250.

Can anyone tell me if there are any other differences between these cards?

Andy

I believe that the 250 uses a newer compression chip with better
performance. Don't know how much difference that makes in the real
world. The PCI can record direct to AVI, which Hauppage says that the
others cannot--if you are planning on doing editing this might be a
significant benefit.

Being able to record to AVI is a matter of the software and nothng
more. You can get free software to record to AVI.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The PVR250 uses the ITVC15/Conexant 2341x chip, not the more common
BT8x8 chip used in most other Hauppage products, and that chip is not
supposed to provide anything but compressed output. This is fine for
many applications but not for all.

Would you care to provide the name of a piece of free software that will
record to AVI using a PVR-250, and provide the link to the statement
that it will do so? Not that it will output AVI using some other board
and will provide some kind of output using the PVR-250 but that it will
specifically output AVI from the PVR-250. I can't find any and I
suspect that without your guidance the OP will have equal difficulty.
