I have a Kodak DX6440 Digicam and a PC with a Geforce 7600 GS Graphics card.
The Camera has an A/V out socket and the Graphics card has a S-Video socket.
If I connect my Digicam to a TV then it can be used almost like a
security camera in that what I see on the TV is what the Digicam is seeing.
Is it possible to do the same thing by connecting the Digicam to the
S-VIDEO socket on my PC Graphics card so that the PC monitor displays
what the Digicam is seeing?

But how and what software would I need to view the image.
I connected it up, switched on the camera and: Nothing

That's not very surprising. What program did you run to view the video
stream, if any?

Most cards with a video-in will include something, either as part of the
driver or as a separate application on the driver CD. Did you look yet?

You need to run a software that displays the video in. Usually it's
the software that comes with the video card. Look for TV Viewer or
something similiar.

And one thing: are you SURE you have a video-IN and not video-OUT? A
lot of video cards have video-out only and can't be used in the manner
you described.

Since I haven't found any suitable software with the Graphic Card driver
etc I assume that your 'Yes' should probably be a 'No'.
As a newbie I don't really know what I'm looking for.
Maybe the S-VIDEO socket on the Graphics Card is an output only. This I
will check.
Thanks

OK, so it seems that the S-VIDEO socket on the Graphics is an 'OUT', so
that obviously won't work. Do you know of a way it could be achieved
using the USB connection?

Right. You should probably read the manual that came with your card.
It's should be on the driver disc as a PDF file (you'll need Adobe Acrobat
Reader to be able to view it)

That depends on the camera. Now you need to read you camera manual and
see what software it was supplied with. Some cameras will work as a "web
cam", some can be controlled fully to the extent that you can remotely
operate it to take pictures at full resolution.

You might be better starting a new thread specifying the camera make and
model and what you awnt to do so those with the same camera or experience
with it might be attracted to the subject line.
