Hello,

i got the existing bios issue when coldstartin the board here. The PSU
must be switched on and off many times till the board goes right
trough the POST. In failure i get one beep, no video signal and
running fans and drives. The right startup gives two beeps, then the
VGA-Bios comes up and the board run rock solid. The described problem
appears without any PCI Cards and further peripherie. Bios reload,
flash and reset to defaults did not help.

Board: Dragon KT400 Lite
Bios: 2aa7
Ram: 2x 256MB Infineon PC2700
CPU: Athlon XP 1600+ (Palomino)
Graphic: Inno3D Geforce-3
PSU: Evotec 320Watts

Is there a better bios that solves the startup problems?

Bye Eric

Try a better power supply. Preferably good name brand 400watts or
higher.

Good advice. 320 watts is very anemic! Also, try reseating the AGP card. Connections can be picky.

FWIW, I just finished a build using the KT400 Dragon Lite and a Geforce 3 (Gainward) and the
combination worked beautifully. Used a 420 watt Enlight PS. Was sorry to see it go!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Take a look at these articles.

Something breaks the POST to stop until the VGA-Bios will come up.

Which Power must be increased? Most PSU's are badly and give to less
power for a single line.

3.3V / 28A
5V / 30A
12V / 15A

 > What slots are memory in??

1 and 2

The cold PC comes up mostly well, but every reboot can cause the
breakdown in the POST.

For DDR333 and DDR400 memory, put memory in slots 1 and 3.
Board only supports two sticks of this. Saw this on Soyo site few
months back.

Look at 12V rail of PS
For *good* supply go with min 400w 20a min on 12v rail, Antec "true-power"
For inexpensive one that works, I use Austin (Chieftek) 450w or 500w

Agree with others, buy a psu that supplies more current on the 12 volt
rail. Until then, you can try hitting the reset button within a second or
two after hitting the power button. I had to do this on my Soyo board
until I put in a better power supply when I upgraded to an XP 1700+. That
would usually take care of it. If it doesn't take care of it on the first
try (you waited too long or to little between power and reset buttons) you
have to power off completely before trying the power - then reset trick.
I think this should only be a temporary measure however since you are
probably running the 12 v line on your power supply out of spec and could
expect troubles with with psu in the future. A worse case scenario would
be the psu failing and taking either the motherboard or cpu with it due to
a voltage spike.

Done, looks better!

Yes that was my problem, now i lowered the consumption with a newer
Athlon and have deinstalled an old zipdrive. Got a startin system most
times now.

Thanks!
