The port may not be the problem but are you running 98 or 98SE?
It also sounds like the software demands you have at least DirectX8.1b
installed as that filename appears to be the DX8.1b redistributable package.
Also odd as I can't think of any reason a Mass Storage Device (USB and a
drive letter) would require anything of DX?
Perhaps it uses a TWAIN interface instead, is there a scanner that wasn't
there before?
