Post subject: Which Dual Layer DVD?
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom (more info?)

Seems I need bigger storage options, I just wrote my 9th DVD of digital
photos (with the 8MB camera, fitting only around 2 months worth of
photos on a disc. No, I'm not a pro). So, I'm researching dual-layer
drives.

The two I like the most is the Sony DRU710A or 720A (or possibly the
less expensive DW-D22A-B2) and the Plextor PX716SA/SW.

I currently have a Sony DVD drive, and an ancient but still flawlessly
working Plextor drive, so I'm happy with both manufacturers.

The Plextor is SATA, anybody able to tell me if that makes a noticible
speed difference, as opposed to, for example, the 720A. It's quite a
bit more expensive than anything else I'm looking at.

Are there other brands of DL drives I should be looking at? Does anyone
but Plextor make a reliable SATA DL DVD drive?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I used Sony DRU-800A that include DVD+R/-R DL which seem great also very fast to burn the disc by few seconds.. and I also used ASUS E616 P1 DVD ROM include software for film.. both are great.

I plugged ASUS and Sony in same cable as ASUS is master and Sony is slave jumper - it worked great and you better get Sony DRU-800A dvd writer include Nero6 as package. I changed the front panel to black to match my Xaser III Supertower case.. see this one as very cheaper:

press the DRU-800A and it cost £42.30 that very cheap..
