Post subject: Dual layer media reader

Went out looking at new computers at Best Buy and noticed in the specs
that they read/writer dual layer media.

Are these drives backward-compatable with 'single layer' media?

Yes. DVD-RWs that can read and write dual-layered discs will handle
single-layered discs with no difficulty.
