The desktop PC has both a firewire port direcly from the m/b and also
from the case top to headers on the m/b in order to facilitate
connecting these peripherals without having to get around the back of
the case . I'll try both of these again and see whether there is any
difference in effect.
One of the reasons for my initial question on this subject was that ,
until recently , the only occasion I have had to use a firewire
connection was with the external CD-Rom supplied with my laptop and
the laptop.
It was when I tried to connect this drive to the PC's firewire port
out of curiosity that I discovered this problem.
I then began to wonder whether this was a fundemental difference
between a laptop-supplied peripheral and one designed to work with a
PC - perhaps these are incompatible in design ? Do you know whether
this is a possibility ?
I'll post back with any results of significance .
