Hello everyone, here's a problem for ya!
I have a special usb device that I use for practicing radio controlled
flying. Basically I hook my radiotransimter up to my USB, and run a
simulator to practice flying radiocontrolled helicopters and airplanes.
Now to the problem:
I have two systems, both shuttle.
System number one is a : shuttle i875p SB75G2
System number two is a: shuttle SN25P
The usb device has a led that is supposed to blink rapidly, we are
talking several blinks per second here, when plugged in and connected
to my radiotransmiter. On my SB75G2, this works flawlessly. I have ran
it for several months with the simulator. Recently I bought a new
computer, another shuttle, the SN25P - now the weird thing is that on
this system when I hook up the USB device, the led blinks only once
every 2 seconds or so, it's like a huuuuge delay which results in that
I can't fly at all with the simulator. Now the simulator does "find"
the interface, but i don't get any response barely from the transmiter
because of this "delay" thing.
I know a fair bit about computers, and I'm an avid unix user aswell, I
know a fair bit of C and so on, but this problem has boggled me for
months now, I have tried everything. I know there was a problem with
the bios on the SN25P that had something todo with the USB, I have
upgraded bios twice but no change in the mysterious delay of "doom" =(
..
I have tried all different usb ports, same thing on all of them. I have
tried to disable all usb ports but one in the device manager, same
thing happend again.
Now in terms of operating system, updates and software and hardware
peripherals these two computers are identical, same OS, same updates,
same drivers, well apart from the motherboard drivers and so on
ofcourse.
What could be the issue here, what exactly in terms of technical
details are the differences between these two systems and how they
handle USB input/output? I know they are both USB2/1 capable. Could it
be that the SN25P lacks enough power to squeeze out to the usb device,
if so is there any way to fix it, and why would it lack this power?
Other devices such as mice and keyboard and usb joysticks runs on both
of the systems FINE, but NOT the special usb device that I u se for the
simulator.
Could it have something todo with the different chipsets? Nforce4 on
SN25P vs the i875p on the SB75G2 system, does the chipset have an
impact on usb and how it's handled?
I'm fed up with this problem, it's so silly there must be some kind of
solution to this, clearly it must be a hardware related problem, no?
Since the software used it pretty much the same thing.
Any hint/tip or the slightest bit of a theory would be of GREAT help in
this riddle. >> Stay informed about: Extremely mindboggling problem... |

Have you actually gone into the BIOS settings and checked how the
on-board peripherals are configured?
It almost sounds like "USB2" is not enabled. The original USB was very
slow. But USB2 is WAY faster. Double check to make sure that USB2
support is enabled - it is possible that it may not be. Also,
sometimes there is a setting for "USB Legacy Support". Make sure that
is enabled as well.
If you change the settings, reboot a couple of times to make sure
WinDoze has updated the device drivers.
