Router Woes with Blueyonder - i have purchased a netgear cable/dsl web safe router gateway, model number rp614 and am having a great deal of trouble getting it running. i have read this forum with great interest. the network is set up ok locally, i.e. the router is on..

Netgear ME102 - very slow data rate all of a sudden - My ME102 wireless access point is giving me really slow data rates. Unusable in fact. Signal strength and quality can be 100% (testing with laptop next to access point), but data transfer rate so slow that the internet times out. Netgear support worse.

Hi all,

I want to link up the laptop and the destop only. A 2 computer network for
sharing files and internet. The laptop does have a LAN port but the desktop
doesn't. Both have firewire however. Just want to know if it is actaully
possible to make a network using firewire? If I have to use Lan cable can I
get away with just a LAN card or must I buy a hub as well? Thanks.

With Windows XP (Pro version, at least) you can indeed create a network
between your laptop and desktop using Firewire. In fact, XP installs the
network support on any Firewire device it detects, by default...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

You can link two pcs together with firewire and run tcpip over that link.

You could then use an existing modem to connect to a dialup isp, and use ICS
to allow the other system to get to the internet. Or, you can add a
conventional enet nic to one of the pcs, connect that nic to your broadband or
dsl modem, and again use ICS...

Only if you have XP - I can't vouch for any other os wrt tcpip over
firewire...
