Hi Everyone,

Recently, a friend of mine gave me his old Kenwood True 52x cd-rom
drive. He claims the unit is broken -- he was trying to update the
firmware a few years ago and it hasn't worked since. I tried
connecting it to a power supply, but nothing happens (no lights go on,
the tray won't come out, etc). Does anyone know if there is anything
which can be done to salvage this thing, or should I just toss it in
the trash? I would like to fix this drive, as I remember it being one
of the quickest DAE drives around. Thanks for any help!!

Have a look at CDROM forums e.g. cdfreaks.com
More than likely it crashed during a firmware flash, if this happens the
drive is only useful as a paperweight. There are however some tools that
may be able to flash it PROVIDED that a flash image can be found from
somewhere.

If the drive has a mediatek chipset then see here
