Post subject: GA-7VA problems with 1.5G RAM
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

A colleague recently purchased a new computer, an Athlon 2800+
with 3*512M PC2700 RAM and a GA-7VA motherboard. I have tried
to install Linux (Redhat 9.0) on it, but it consistently aborts
during the installation process. But, with any two of the three
DIMMS in place the installation is successful. I'm currently
trying to install Windows on it to see if the problem is Linux-
specific, but in the meantime:

Is there any known problem with using all three memory slots on
the GA-7VA motherboard?

Or, to put it another way, does this sound like something is
wrong with the motherboard, or something else?

Thanks,
Geoff.

it sounds like you might to use the maxmem= (physical mem, -1M) statement in
your lilo when you install. (or something to that effect... i might be
confusing my NT/2000 term with the linux terms...
