| sound on 7n400 Pro? - Just bought one of these boards and am pretty impressed so far - thanks to all the advice I received from this group which helped me make my choice. Just a quick question - what standards exactly does the built in sound support? In games you get choices.
GA-7N400 Pro onboard sound - Hello again I am now trying to set up the sound and have more problems. The Driver Cd which came with the mobo did not contian the realtek audio driver so the 16mb file from the gigabyte website. This driver does not work even with the hot fix..
GA-7N400-L1 problems.. need help.. - I have been putting a new machine together for XP Home. I have the following parts - AMD 2600 GeForce 4 8x AGP -128M on board sound. 400w PSU 2x 256Meg Memory. Firstly. I can't get the system to boot usually have to switch on then..
GA-7N400 Pro 2 LAN problems - I have read lots about the LAN problems with the pro version of this card, and everyone says upgrade to F11 of the bios. I have the same problems with the pro2 version and have upgraded to F3, the latest version, and still cannot get the LAN card to work.
GA-7N400-L Ram and USB problems - Hi I'll get right to it ... I had 1 gig of ram (Kingston 2x512 meg DS PC-3200) and went out and bought 2 more Kingston 2x512 meg SS PC-3200. Placed them in order in which the manual told me to dealing with DS and SS ... Anyways with all 4 Dimm slots..

Hello,
I bought this board off ebay recently (rev 2.0). Using the onboard
sound I get buzzing every time there is disc activity (sata if that's
relevant).
Do all boards do this or is mine faulty? What can I do, other than use
a third party sound card?

Have you connected the CD audio cable, to the back of a CD drive ?
Disconnect it. You can get CD audio via the IDE ribbon cable (DAE or
digital audio extraction). The analog CD cable sometimes works as an
antenna, and picks up electrical noise. Remove that cable completely.
Go to Device Manager, select your CD Drive. There should be a Properties
tab for the CD Drive. Mine has a tick box for "Digital CD Playback".
Various motherboards have had problems with crosstalk. For example, one
board ran some Ethernet wiring in parallel with audio wires. Every time
packets were sent, there was a background noise in the audio. Adding
a sound card to the computer, is one way to solve that one.

Hello,
Thanks for the fast reply. I didn't think I had added this cable but I
just opened the box to check and I had! I have unplugged it but I'm
afraid there's still some noise on disc activity. I haven't had long
enough to see whether it's as bad as before or whether it has improved
slightly.
I guess I can add a sound card, it's just such a waste of a pci slot
when there's built-in sound already.

Your built-in sound has a number of input sources. The Mixer
control panel controls them. Muting each of the inputs, may
help eliminate the noise. At least on some motherboards, that
was the solution. Other than that, I'd use a sound card. I use
a cheap CMI8738 based card in mine, and its only saving quality,
is no background noise. Everything else about it, sucks
(Headphone setting doesn't have proper ambience.) I understand
in some cases, you can find those cards for $7.

Have you tried changing the SATA drive cable or moving it around? You
might also try moving he drive itself to another location. If the drive
has a cover that's missing that might also be the cause. This all
assumes that the audio noise is being caused by some kind of electrical
radiation from the drive or drive cables. It's worth a try and it's free.

Hi. I've tried that already but without success. I can't seem to find
any "basic" sound cards for sale here (UK); they all seem to be 7.1

I updated the driver and it solved the problem; no need to buy a
