Can anyone please advise me on the the following problem.

We've just got a new Praktica-Pentacon DCZ 5.2 mega-pixel camera.

I've loaded the software disc, as per instructions, with no apparent
problems. It's loaded 2 "Ulead" progs (Ulead Photo Explorer 8.0 basic &
Ulead Video Studio 7.0 basic) ..... don't know if it has installed any
drivers
or software relating to the camera's operation.

I'm using Windows XP. When I connect the camera (as instructed) to the PC,
via the USB port lead, I get (on the camera screen) the message "connected
to
computer", once the camera is turned on. Everything looking good, 'TIL the
next step.

Here's where something is going wrong .......

A message appears on my desktop "Windows has detected a new USB hardware
storage device" ( my camera, obviously) .... but, when I click on the
message bubble
it turns-off & restarts the PC. Usually, when I click on similar message
bubbles, the
hardware device in question is then installed.

I've tried using other, different USB ports on my PC ... after UNinstalling
& re-installing
the software CD, to no avail. I really haven't got a clue what's going
wrong.
We have some pics. already now, on the camera, but cannot transfer them to
the PC ...
as the camera (once connected to the PC & turned on) keeps shutting down &
restarting
the PC.

Any advice / information GREATLY appreciated.

Many thanks in advance, for ANY positive feedback !

Cheers.

A.B.

TBH I've never heard of a "usb card reader".
I'll have a look around our local PC accessory
shop & ask if they stock them.

Cheers.

You might try a powered USB hub.
In any event, if the camera has a removable memory card, a card reader is
usually a better solution, due to download speed and camera battery life.
Many of the current crop of inkjet printers have a built in card slot or
slots.

Which Digi Cam? The IXUS 40 or the Optio S5i - The main reason for choice is the size of the camera. They are both tiny. They both offer very similar features, the Optio is 5mp as opposed to the IXUS at 4mp, but the ixus has 640x480 movie mode at 30fps, where as the Optio is 320x240 at 15fps. The ixu...
