Post subject: Hang when entering Dual BIOS / QFLASH
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

Hello,

I just bought a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro and received a revision 2.0
board. Upon installation, everything seemed to work fine, but I can
NOT get into the Dual BIOS utility or QFLASH.

I can press DEL key to enter BIOS, but when I press the F8 key and
then "Y" for Dual BIOS everything hangs. In my attempt to fix the
problem, I removed the CMOS battery, reloaded Fail-Safe settings, and
disabled CPU Hyperthreading.

I was able to install the latest BIOS FB *ONLY* by using the Award
FLASH872 program. Here are my specs:

Intel P4 2.4C Ghz, 800FSB, Hyperthreading
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro, board revision 2.0 (*** NOT GA-8IPE1000
Pro2)
1GB Crucial Micron DDR400, 512MB in DDR1 and DDR3 (dual channel
enabled)
ATA133 Drives on Promise ULTRA133TX2, onboard SATA Disabled
ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 7500 AGP4X

Nothing is overclocked. I would appreciate helpful suggestions.
Emailed Gigabyte support today too.

Shawn

What BIOS did you flash? FB??

For the GA-8IPE1000 Pro, the only release to replace the original
production F6 is: F7d(Beta) 2003/7/31.

You may want to try flashing with that, otherwise I can't imagine any
user solution and perhaps you will just have to swap the board.

For GA-8IG1000 Pro (Rev 2.0), FB was the first release. There is a new
one dated in the future so you know it has to be good! Hopefully that
will be the fix. Good luck!

An update to this issue, I have discovered that the Promise controller
prevents me from entering the Dual BIOS. When I disconnect the ATA
cable, the Promise BIOS does not load. Then I can enter the mainboard
BIOS, and also the Dual BIOS utility.

I hope an update to the mainboard BIOS will be released to address
this issue.

Does KT600 offer Dual DDR? - I know nForce2 has Dual DDR, but there is no mention of it in the Gigabyte GA-7VT600 user's manual. I purchased 2 256MB DDR's anyway. Even if VIA does not offer it, I like the idea of 2 DDR's in case one goes bad (which I have experienced). Anyway,..
