I recently upgraded my CPU to a Core 2 Duo and at the same time
needed a new motherboard. I didn't have enough cash to do a major
upgrade so I decided to get a ASRock 4COREDUAL-VSTA PT800. With this
board I was able to keep my current RAM and graphics card. I figured
early next year I could upgrade the rest and get a better MB.
When I first put everything together I was very satisfied with it. I
was worried as I've only ever used Asus boards in the past and am
loyal to my brands. But as I said, with a new baby I needed a cheap
upgrade. Everything installed fine and then I put Vista Ultimate in.
Everything went really smooth until I tried to install my trusty
Audigy 2 sound card. When I first tried it my PC froze when I was
putting the drivers in. Then every time I restarted it would freeze.
If I took the card out it would boot no problem.
At first I thought it was a Vista problem. But then I remembered
that before I got this new MB I had used it in a dual boot with a
Vista/XP setup and the card worked great. So now I think it's a
conflict.
I have tried updating the BIOS, moving the card from slot to slot,
disabling and setting on board audio to auto and keep getting the same
results. I have actually made a little progress as the card is in now
and 3 times out of 10 I can boot into Windows and use it a bit. But if
I start iTunes or Media Center it freezes again.
I am hoping that maybe someone else has had this or a similar problem
and can offer some kind of help. Thanks guys! >> Stay informed about: Need Help With Mobo Problem |

Yeah I have the same board and have had the same problems. This only
seems to happen when I am trying to transfer large amounts of data
from my second hard drive. I am using a Pentium D (I'm all about the
cheep also) 925 3 Ghz with 1GB DDR 667 and a 7800GS AGP card with an
80 and 160 GB HD. I was originally using a 430 watt power supply and
then changed to a 700 watt because of the graphics card. I then
thought it was a bad board so I sent it back to newegg for a
replacement. When I got it back, I didn't put the thermal gel on
right and it still froze. I then thought it a was a heat issues so I
bought more fans and reaplied using artic siver. I got the temp down
to 47 C so that was not the issue. I then read an article about
disabling the disc catching on the HD's, but still no dice. I am
about at my wits end. I have replaced everything but the cpu but I
doubt that is the issue. Most forums I've checked indicate that it is
just a badly made board. If anyone has anymore information to offer
us, I will be glad to take it. Here are my specks just in case
CPU: PentiumD 925 3.0 Ghz
RAM: Crucial value select 1GB DDR2 667
Video: PNY Nvdia 7800GS AGP 8X AGP 2.0
HD1: 80GB Western Digital 7200 Ultra ATA DMA 5
HD2: 160GB Western Digital 7200 Ultra ATA DMA 5
DVD-R: Sony Dual-layer 2X, 8X DVD-R
DVD-ROM: Samsung DVD-Rom 16X
Fans: 92 MM came with the case, 3x 80MM Ultra Brand, and CPU Fan(stock
fan with PentiumD) >> Stay informed about: Need Help With Mobo Problem |
