Post subject: Help :) Setting AMD 1333 (Long Specs!)

Greetings and Hello, Smile

I have many times read and found answers among these boards, but this time I feel I need a little more direct help. I need help properly setting (clocking) the processor in my old secondary pc for peak performance and stability. Rather than the default 1g the boards bios runs it at. I am fairly good with hardware but not very knowledgable at manually configuring processors. Smile

I know most posts request as much information as possible so here goes:

vrrrrmmmmmmmm!!!!

are you using a stock amd heatsink? what power supply do you have? do you still have your manual. if not download one. is this your board?
http://www.soyo.com.tw/products/proddesc.php?id=189

i notice you say it's running at 1gig. the processor is underclocked right now. check your manual, there should be a jumper or a setting in your bios to set the fsb to 133. that would be a start, huh?

get back to me and we will go on.

install these programs.

this one has a dash board that lists temps, voltages, cpu usage, etc. with a little tweaking it will work well.
motherboard monitor 5
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

this one will list the cpu, fsb and memory timings.

Yes it is my board, no I do not have the manual and I get an error if I try to download either manual..

There is a bios setting as illistrated above in my post under Bios Options CPU Frequency Mode...

I installed MBM prior to this post the closest listing is the KT333 All revisions:

i just grab it from the above link. backup link! Very Happy

my first suggestion is to enter bios and choose optimal settings/save and exit. that should get you 10x133=1333. that would be a start. i see no jumper for 100fsb/133,166 so it has to be bios set. i have a kt600 ultra and kt880 and they don't have a jumper either. your probably running default setting now. going by this info:

"Information from AMD

A Processor Core Architecture AMD Athlon Processor
1333 Model Number 1333MHz
A Package Type Ceramic
M Operating Temperature 1.75v
S Max Die Temperature 95C
3 Size of L2 Cache 256 Kbyes
C System-Bus 266 MHz "

how much does you cpu temp go down when you pop the side of the case off?

the manual is pretty detailed. if you haven't found the cmos/bios clear jumper yet. it's jp5, bottom/right edge of the board. just for when things get tricky.

Hello again,

I downloaded the manual, Thanks for the links..

Resetting the bios to optimum settings to auto set things won't work in my case as per the manual..

"If you have a 133MHz FSB Thunderbird CPU, you need to manually set the CPU Frequency mode in the BIOS."

However I can manually enter 10x and an CPU Freq of 133 what would I set dram clock to from the looks of the manual also 133 for a 1:1 ratio..

That about right?

After about an hour Idle with the side off the temp dropped 6 degrees to 43 // 36 the ambient temp in the room about the same as before..

Thanks a Bunch,

Huser

glad things are improving. if you care to really go for it set your vcore to the max which i think is 1.85, the vdimm to 2.8v, then set the fsb on the cpu and ram to 166fsb and see if it goes. if not then clear the cmos with the jumper and set it back to the way you have it. if it works you might want to up the fan on the cooler with something like this.

http://www.directron.com/fanadp.html

http://www.directron.com/a1357.html

you need to run prime95 to check stability but watch the temps.

good luck!

Greetings again,

Well, I have it running currently at a CPU frequency of 166 with an 8x multiplier for 1336MHz and a DRAM bus of 166, at default voltages, and have run the Prime 95 torture test (Maximum heat mode) and Masaki Kawase Direct x9 Shader Demo for about 20 hours with no errors, freeze up's or reboot's with the side panel on it stabalized at a 63C max load temp.

I have changed the direction of the side fan for positive pressure, and added an additional intake fan in the front of the case, (no rear exhaust available).

Unless there is any need to push things further this seems to be a stable, and faster setup. Using everest home edition the memory timings have gone from:

Read 1430
Write 433
Latency 182.6ns

To:

Read 2159
Write 620
Latency 133.7ns

Oh and from another guide, I have slightly tweaked the ti-4200 to a 300 clock / 500 memory setting. Thus the reason for using the Masaki Kawase Direct x9 Shader Demo.

Unless theres anything else...

Thanks Again,

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Huser
