Are you using XP? If so, you need to go to disk management which is located in administrative tools and partition and format the drive. You can also assign the drive letter in there as well.

Thanks for your reply. The drive has been partitioned and formatted, the problem I have is that I cant find, or cant recognise, the support(?) driver(?) file on the MB installation disk.
Is this driver SATA or PATA???
Mother board is KM400-M2 and the drive is connected to Sata 1.
I didn't receive a floppy disk with the MB and the extracts I.ve copied to a floppy dont appear to be the right ones.
I cant find anything on the MB disk that actually describes itself as "Sata driver file"
Thanks Exclamation

go to the via website above and they have the drivers you need. You can download the SATA Raid drivers, even if your not running a Raid setup it will provide a driver for the SATA controller. Also get the latest chipset drivers as well so that XP can make use of all the functions of your motherboard. That should do the trick.

Good Luck!

Hey thanks for your help so far,BUT.............................................I've had no luck with this driver.
I cant find any file that will fit on a floppy that identifies itself as a "SATA HDD DRIVER FILE"
The drive is recognised as "serial chanel 0" and the raid bios describes the HD, so it knows that it is there.
My manual says I should insert the "Manufacturers support disk in to fdd "A"
Files that I've extracted cause an exception when I try to load them.
Big headache for a dope like me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
