Help,

A complete dummy when it comes to this stuff! Can anyone tell me the
correct settings for all the BIOS/CMOS pages so that I can install two
Maxtor 160G HD's for Raid 0 on an existing Puter?

I had this set up before, moved my hardware to a dif. Box and Screwed
it all up!! I got it going again in a regular setup, guess that's two
IDE hard drives, One master, One slave, I guess?

Thanks,

Mike

the manual shd have all this info, check it. these instructs are for
using the Intel ICH5R chip, not the secondary promise chip.

make sure your bios is up to date.

put the ICH5 into "Enhanced Mode"; then you'll get the 4 ide channels (two
regular, w/ SATA 1+2 mapped to 3+4). put the two drives on the two SATA
(they're 3+4), put your optical on IDE 1 Master. Connect no other drives
until after XP is up. Connect no usb devices, unless that's the only
key/mouse you have. Use bios to disable any mobo device you don't need.

set the primary boot device to "Embedded RAID Device" (or something to
that effect).

reboot and press cntrl-I to enter the Raid bios; create the array, use the
default stripe size (128), or halve it to 64 if you know you will not be
working w/ very large files like videos, but no less - it is a mistake to
set stripe size too small, tho it often stated otherwise. the myth of
matching stripe size to cluster size is way off base.

have the intel app accelerator-raid edition ready on a floppy disk; You
should use version 3.5.3, it was the one that mated w/ the IC7's chip.
It's on intel's site, and shd be on abit site too (tho they may have the
newer version, which will work ok too but is bigger). There you will also
find the F6 floppy maker tool.

boot to xp setup cd, press F6, wait and it'll ask for the floppy. and
you're off...
