I have the Asus P5B-Plus and a C2D 6420. First Intel since my Pentium 166.
Thought I knew the steps, but I must be missing something.
2 Gig GSkill DDR2 800 set to run at 533 (Lots of headroom, right?)
AI Overclocking set to manual. RAM voltage to 2.1v
Tried upping the FSB from 266 to 300. No go.
What am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

Have you locked PCI-Express at 100 and PCI at 33 ?

Initially I would leave the RAM voltage at auto rather than assume it
needed changing.

Right you are! All's well with the RAM voltage on auto and with PCI and
PCI-Express locked. I'm at 2.6 GHz so far.
Thanks very much!

Glad to see it was of help.

How are your temps running a couple of instances of Prime95 or similar ?

I recently built a P5B Deluxe with a 6600.
I had to put an Arctic Cooler Freezer7Pro on it to keep cool enough.
I got the clock up to 3.1 from 2.4.
With two instances of Prime95 it would keep the CPU below 60c.
Above that I was getting failures.

Let us know where you get to.

Eric

I see what you mean about the heat. I was naive enough to think the stock
HSF would be sufficient, but going beyond 2.6 GHz, it seems (idle in the
upper 40'sC and 60 - 62 C stressed), shows otherwise. This is one area where
I think AMD does better. I have three X2's here, all overclocked ~30% and
there are no heat issues with the stock HSF's.

That Arctic Cooler F7Pro seems pretty reasonable at NewEgg...

but only until you see this:
http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/Arctic-Cooling-Freezer-7-Pro-p-16334.html

My stock Intel HSF had the seemingly smooth but malleable copper
surface distorted. I presume this to have happened when the copper
part was pressed into the aluminum.

How fast does your fan spin at max speed?

Quite a price difference. Thanks!
The fan on the stock HSF runs at ~1850 at idle, I've seen it go up to 2100
while running Prime95.

Mine from the E6400 only goes up to around 1750 on my Biostar board. I
even tried shorting the fourth pin to +12v which supposedly simulates 100%
duty cycle of the PWM fan controller. I wonder if higher speed processors
get a different fan which is capable of turning a bit faster, because I've heard
of these fans turning 2800 RPM...

This is better still:
www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=FAN-AC7PRO&c=fr

Weird, if you leave off the "&c=fr" it costs more!
