This may be old news here but I had a looked and couldnt see a similar problem so thought I would
ask here. I am setting up a system and am using a K7S5A Pro motherboard and a XP 1800. The system
works great, no issues at all except when I try to install a modem. When I install the modem in the
PCI slot the computer appears to come to life from the shut down state! It trys to power up but is
not able to but the fans etc are running and the screen is blank! Never seen this before! If I try
to reboot I get the same thing over and over. If I remove the modem it boots and runs just fine! In
a fast google search it seems others have had this problem with the K7S5A but I was not able to find
a solution? Anyone here ever see this problem before? Thanks in advance....

I emailed ECS and was told that some modems will NOT work with this
motherboard. I switched modems to a recommended brand and my board
has been working fine.

Try disabling advanced power management in BIOS first before replacing the
modem with a recommended brand.

Modern motherboards still keep 3.3 V flowing through the PCI bus in a soft
shutdown; it's meant to detect Wake-on-LAN devices. For some people building
PCs from scratch, this has lead to a few dead Athlons when the user plugged
in a PCI card before installing a heat sink on the CPU... Always unplug the
power cord when servicing internal components.
