Hi guys, can anyone help with this problem.
I've just installed a PCI V90 56k modem, installed drivers
and everyting seemed fine, but whenever I try to connect
Keep getting the message _ Opening Port..
Error 680: there was no dial tone.
I've check the region setting (UK in my case) but I cant
get the little shit to work ??
Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Fogler

Make sure the modem is correctly connected to the BT wall socket. You are
using the cable that came with the modem, right? This sounds like a classic
connectivity problem. Try another cable if need be.

Maybe you can try disabling the "Wait for tone before dialing" checkbox. I'm
not sure that those are the exact words, I'm using italian OS... Remember to
verify that changes are applied in:
Control Panel > Modem
Device Manager > Modem
Remote connection > Modem properties
If I remember correctly, sometimes Win98 will keep different settings in two
places so you change something somewhere but the system still doesn't take
it. This happened to me with the speaker volume setting.
One other thing you can try is looking for control codes that your ISP
eventually suggests for your modem, but unless you're using some 3COM or
other similar brand device you won't find any.

Hope it helps
Luca
