Seems like there was some discussion awhile back regarding K7V Dragon Plus
mobo and its finicky attitude towards handling RAM. If I populate all 3 RAM
slots with PC2400 or PC2700 Corsair RAM, 256 mb each, I have frequent
instability issues that don't occur if I use only 2 slots. I'm running an
AMD 1.6 ghz Palomino core and with all RAM slots full, even with all default
settings the computer will often spontaneously reboot several times b4 I can
get WinXP running. But keeping slot 3 free, I can overclock to 1.7 ghz &
137mhz FSB with no instability problem. I've tried several versions of the
BIOS; no difference. I've applied the motherboard mods discussed earlier
(install 1500 uf capacitor).
Does this sound familiar, and has anyone discovered a fix?
Thanks...Lee >> Stay informed about: K7V RAM issues |

Yep. Its familiar. Even Soyo's website now says to only use 2 slots on the
Dragon+. I'm running a 512 MB and a 256 MB (generic PC2100) in slots 1 and
3 with no stability issues. Even at a 140 MHz FSB. I think it all boils
down to not enough power going to the slots to really run 3 sticks.

Thanks, Darren & Jon. You've confirmed what I thought was the situation.

Just had to reply to this one. Oh yeah does that sound familiar. I ran my
PC for 1 year like this. It would reboot 2 - 3 times a day. After countless
trial and error I finally figured out not to run ram in the 3rd slot. Now
my PC is running much smother.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: K7V RAM issues |

And thanks for sharing your experience. Now I guess it's MY turn to
exchange a stick or two of 256 mb RAM for a 512 mb!
